Electric RIMS brewery introduction. We are almost ready to start brewing in this video. In case you were wondering this was my first ever brew session. I went all-grain from the start which is kind of crazy but what the heck it was fun! Automation of temps is done by a Lego Mindstorms Brick and Lego Temp probes. We found that one of the probes has accuracy issues. During our mashing we noticed that the starches were not converting as we expected and double checking our mash temp with a BBQ probe showed we were running cool. I'll be swapping the boil probe and mash probe around and retrying. I think I will also install a manual thermometer somewhere in the mash as assurance that I am hitting my temps. There were a few other minor tweaks that will come out of this but otherwise it ran very well for a maiden voyage.
This project was possible through the support of Andy Marshall of National Instruments for temp probes and software. Software training and support was provided by my son Andrew. Mechanical engineering peer review and brew coaching was provided by Neil Selk. Thank you all for your help in making this happen!
